Sherlock aired 10 years ago! I remember sitting there a decade ago not knowing much about it and thinking, ‘How is this going to work? A modern-day Sherlock Holmes? Nah.’ Little did I know how compelling these characters would be and how many emotions would be conjured over the years. What are your memories of it all? • 10 years since a high-functioning sociopath rained down upon the streets of London and made an unlikely bond with the moral compass of Dr John Watson. The relationship between Cumberbatch and Freeman solidified this whole show as such a treasure amongst the UK TV landscape. Holmes initially comes across as a rather reclusive character, someone who doesn’t really fit in. It’s only when Martin Freeman enters and begins to understand the true Sherlock where the chemistry ignites and suddenly two people who are poles apart become the best of friends who truly understand each other. Mix all of this with the writing, Arthur Conan Doyle (of course), and the introduction of Andrew Scott, Amanda Abbington, and Mark Gatiss it becomes clear how such an iconic set of stories and personalities moulded this into such a well-rounded show which has stood the test of time. As Mary Watson puts it, “The best and wisest men I have ever known, Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson.” • From Trinity Church, Chinatown, Trafalgar Square, and the River Thames – the locations for all episodes can mainly be found in London while sometimes also branching out to Wales. Sadly, there is no real 221B Baker Street. The door and café are very much real though and can be found on North Gower Street close to Euston station – Speedy’s café does a great English breakfast! I’ll pinpoint each location in my stories on a little detective trail around the city. • • #sherlock #sherlockholmes #drwatson #classic #arthurconandoyle #benedictcumberbatch #martinfreeman #markgatiss #andrewscott #bbc #tv #british #london #wales #film #photography #explore

Inception was released 10 years ago today. I saw the film 10 years ago this very evening, on opening night here in the UK! I didn’t understand much, being 11 years old, but it was an insanely memorable cinematic experience that still sits with me now. What are your memories of it? Is the final scene a dream? • This film remains to be a huge cinematic achievement and undoubtedly one that lauded Christopher Nolan as a true auteur amongst Hollywood; no sequel, no superheroes, just an idea that was its own entity. The lengths that Nolan went to create a world within a world within a dream, in relation to something that we all experience, was mesmerising at the time of release and has only grown with intense satisfaction, interest, and discussion over this past decade. Every aspect of Inception is a blessing to film enthusiasts out there and this notion followed me heavily as I stepped through the reality of the film in city-bending Paris and London. From a realistic depiction of the sub-conscious through in-camera techniques and careful use of visual effects, the overall experience is one that defines dreams in a relatable and cinematic way. A film that was inspired by many films, and has since gone on to inspire many others – we’ve just lived through a decade of Inception. Cinematography by @wpfister 🎥 • I was very lucky to visit Paris before the lockdown and Covid-19. More details about the film and each location will be put on my stories 📸 • #inception #christophernolan #nolan #leonardodicaprio #ellenpage #tomhardy #josephgordonlevitt #cillianmurphy #filmmaking #hollywood #dreams #life #cinematography #paris #film #photography #explore #parisjetaime

“Come on, Peter Tingle…” • This time last year Spider-Man: Far From Home was swinging through cinemas around the globe! Favourite moment? I really did love the illusions created by Mysterio 🎬📽 • Here are some Spidey adventures from over the past year! I was really fortunate to have Far From Home be largely based in Europe – especially London for that matter. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Samuel L. Jackson etc all paid a visit to beautiful overcast England so you can imagine my joy as I followed in their footsteps on my local grounds. The main set piece takes place on Tower Bridge (recreated in a studio), with various other locations being used like the Thames pathway, the Tower of London, The Shard, Holland Park School, and Alexandra Palace to name but a few. • To snap a Marvel film is always a pleasure but it makes it extra special when the film oozes iconic backdrops and areas where I would usually go for a run or leisurely stroll, now I imagine Spidey swinging above me as he battles Mysterio over the Thames. • • #spiderman #spidermanfarfromhome #peterparker #tomholland #zendaya #jakegyllenhaal #marvel #rdj #avengers #london #film #photography #explore

Sex Education is a pretty important show. A show with a diverse cast, LGBTQ+ representation, discussion of mental health, and an overall look at some quite relevant coming of age topics. Do you watch it? @ncutigatwa is a scene-stealer 🎬 I’ve shared some shots from my Sex Education travels before, there was so much to see over in Wales and the landscapes remain truly spectacular – something the show has done so well; created a natural set that doesn’t quite pinpoint its location but instead keeps the viewer excited and engaged with the surroundings 🌍 it was a pleasure exploring with Netflix and hopefully I’ll go back when it’s all a little safer! • I hope everyone is doing well. It hasn’t felt right sharing filming locations over the past few weeks. I thought about what good film/show I could talk about next and Sex Education felt like it had a lot of positivity within it as already highlighted above. It’s on Netflix too so if you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend! Just maybe not with your parents… Continued support for the BLM movement remains in my story highlights where petitions and donations are still very much needed! • • #sexeducation #netflix #diversity #lgbtq #pridemonth #mentalhealth #ncutigatwa #asabutterfield #emmamackey #otis #maeve #comedy #tv #film #photography #visitwales

Happy Star Wars Day! 💫🚀 • What’s your favourite Star Wars film? It’s hard to argue the fact that this franchise defined cinema for its time and has succeeded in staying with us through decades of passion and fan devotion. The above scene from ‘The Force Awakens’ took some time to find within the Forest of Dean but it’s doable with some rock faces still existing and certain pathways being distinguishable since filming. May the 4th be with you! 💁🏻‍♂️🥳 • @puzzlewoodfod is home to many films and television shows, it’s always a pleasure to visit! The last time I ventured over to this location was to explore some Star Wars treats – where Rey is capture Kylo Ren - as well as step through the magical Merlin which holds a special place in my heart as such a wholesome show. • • #starwars #maythe4th #hansolo #rey #kyloren #adamdriver #markhamill #daisyridley #disney

“Until the end…” ⚡️📖 • On this day in 1998, the Battle of Hogwarts took place. The penultimate farewell to all of our beloved characters. Magical send-offs and fateful conclusions aplenty with a bountiful array of wands being raised for the fallen. “Stay close to me.” Harry muttered, as he says goodbye to a world of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the very place where it all started; Hogwarts 🦉 • Gloucester Cathedral stood in as Hogwarts for a number of films. It’s a stunning looking piece of architecture and is still filled with the magical aesthetic that you’d instantly recognise when walking through the hallowed halls. This is a scene from ‘The Chamber of Secrets’ and makes it all that more melancholy to see all of these characters together during simpler times, before the story truly began! • • #harrypotter #battleofhogwarts #wizardingworld #jkrowling #danielradcliffe #alanrickman #film

“My dearest Cecilia...” 💙 • Celebrating @jamesmcavoyrealdeal’s birthday with this stunning (and my favourite!) scene from Atonement. This is the elegant, sweeping, one-shot sequence of the Dunkirk evacuation which follows McAvoy as he witnesses the terrors of the war. While this is set in France, it was actually shot on the Redcar seafront in Middlesbrough. James McAvoy has been incredible with his support for the NHS, go and check out his page for more information on donating and helping fight COVID-19 💪🏼 • Exploring when the world was normal 🌍 This 5 minute continuous take is such a filmmaking triumph. They rehearsed for 2 days before shooting for just 1 day - you can see how complex the sequence would have been. The camera ends up rolling for about 1/4 of a mile with it taking up a lot of the films budget - the result is hauntingly beautiful and made way for a slew of Oscar nominations. • • #jamesmcavoy #keiraknightley #atonement #xmen #split #it #filmmaking #hope #film #photography #nhs #theacademy

“Can you introduce me as Joker?” • 2 Jokers dancing in the spotlight. Joaquin Phoenix took home the Oscar for Best Actor last night – it’s been 11 years since Heath Ledger was also crowned with this achievement for the same role. Ledger was awarded the Oscar posthumously in 2009, so this turn of events couldn’t feel more just; Phoenix has brought this journey full circle by picking up the award that Ledger so rightfully deserved to pick up himself 11 years ago. 2 Jokers standing tall, side-by-side. • I visited the ‘Joker steps’ in July of last year. I was so excited to see them for real! I only had one shot to go with though as only one short trailer had been released at that time. Now I’d love to go back with some more footage! What a triumph of a film. • • #joker #joaquinphoenix #heathledger #oscars #theacademy #batman #inspiration #film #toddphillips #photography

“It is not a choice. It is a duty.” • ad | I teamed-up with @netflixuk to explore the royal elegance & beauty of @thecrownnetflix 👑 Following in the footsteps of such golden splendour was quite an extravagant feeling – standing where Olivia Colman, Her Majesty, spoke her speeches as she firmly commanded a country. This series is woven through the history of Britain, filmed all over the authentic landscape and architecture of the United Kingdom, and done so with the utmost respect, honour, and justice to the crown. Every member of the cast embodies their true-to-life persona with talent and suave, it’s truly a delight to watch this series grow into the arms of the nation. Season 4 is already gearing up to be an intense insight into the next chapter of the Royal family. • London. Reading. Buckingham. Windsor. Wales - just some of the stunning locations used from around the UK for filming. This production is primarily set in London with the first two shots seen here taking place at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich (also home to many Hollywood blockbusters) with the others being shot all around the lush countryside of stately homes and glorious estates. I feel extra British while writing all of this, proud to be! It was a real joy to explore all of these locations and to step through this royally stunning historical slice of television. • • #thecrown #netflix #oliviacolman #clairefoy #charlesdance #mattsmith #helenabonhamcarter #queen #monarchy #royalfamily #uk #british #england #london #buckingham #locations #tv #photography #art
